10 Most Powerful Cars in the World

10 Most Powerful Cars in the World

You want to feel powerful? Drive one of these 10 cars, each with more horsepower than the average car has got wheels! You’ll be burning rubber in no time, that’s for sure. And if you’re feeling nostalgic about what you drove in high school, here are the top 10 cars from your favorite decade. We hope you like them as much as we do!

– Jaguar XJ220

This Jaguar had a top speed of 220mph, thanks to its twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The car's $470,000 price tag made it a popular sight on Bond movie sets—it appeared in Tomorrow Never Dies and was also Daniel Craig's vehicle of choice for Quantum of Solace. When production ended, only one XJ220 was left at Jaguar dealerships worldwide. In 2010, it sold for $422,500. – Ferrari F50: Ferrari produced just 349 F50s between 1995 and 1997. Despite its limited run, many critics consider it one of Ferrari’s best cars ever produced. It can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 3 seconds flat and boasts a top speed of 205 mph.

– Porsche Carrera GT

548hp and 391 lbs/ft of torque, 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds. Porsche’s answer to the McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo, only 356 were ever produced from 2004-2007. Its 5.7L V10 engine had a power to weight ratio of 621hp per tonne making it one of fastest supercars of its time before being replaced by its successor: The 918 Spyder (Ferrari F430 replacement). It was built using technologies from Porsche’s racing programs and is extremely rare as it was never put into production for a full year until 2015 when Porsche decided to sell off their remaining cars for $1M each.

– Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4

It has a top speed of 220 mph and its 6.5-liter V12 produces 700 hp. The Aventador LP 700-4 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and it costs $370,000. The Aventador LP 700-4 is a sports car made by Lamborghini that was first released on February 2011 at Geneva Motor Show. It has a 4WD transmission with a seven-speed ISR (Istituto di Servizi per il Rete Ferroviaria) single-clutch semi-automatic paddle shift system.

– Ferrari LaFerrari

This supercar has more than 950 hp and gets to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Ferrari's hybrid V12 engine is paired with a 161-hp electric motor, and the combined system puts out a stunning 950 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. It’s also got a carbon fiber monocoque, ceramic brakes, 20-inch wheels and ceramic clutch. The LaFerrari tops out at 217 mph and will cost you about $1 million.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

1200 horsepower, 250 mph top speed. Price tag: $2.6 million. Forbes (2009) called it the world’s most powerful, fastest and most expensive production car ever made. But before you jump to conclusions about its carbon footprint (it produces 1200 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven), be aware that it can go from 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, which means it uses only about 1 liter of fuel for every 10 km driven! Now that’s green! An interesting fact: Only 30 have been produced so far by Bugatti, with five purchased by Americans—including PGA star Phil Mickelson and multi-billionaire Kirk Kerkorian.

– Pagani Huayra BC

The $2.2 million Pagani Huayra BC is an upgraded version of its older brother, featuring new design features and an increase of power. The car contains a 6.0 liter twin-turbo Mercedes AMG V12 engine with 720 horsepower and 1,098 lb.-ft. of torque—allowing it to reach 60 mph from a stop in only 2.7 seconds! The Huayra BC also has a redesigned front bumper to improve airflow, increased downforce on the rear spoiler, and upgraded coilover suspension that give it higher cornering speeds than previous models. With these changes, 0–60 mph times have been improved by over one second!

-Koenigsegg Agera R

This bad boy can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 2.8 seconds, and tops out at an incredible 273 mph (439 km/h). The engine behind that outstanding performance is a 5-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces a staggering 1,140 horsepower and 920 pound-feet of torque. It’s not just all about power though: when it comes to speed, it’s also about keeping that speed for as long as possible; more than anything else, acceleration is what makes a car fast—and that's exactly what makes these cars so impressive.

– SSC Ultimate Aero TT

1,228 hp and 1,106 ft lbs of torque – The only street-legal car on our list, it is one of three million-dollar supercars that set a Guinness world record as the fastest production car. On May 2nd, 2007 at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah: 253.7 mph (407.63 km/h) top speed over two consecutive runs within an hour and averaged 256.18 mph (412.56 km/h). This is no joke - if you really are in need of some speed...this is for you! No special license required either to drive it home from your local dealer!

HyperSport

With a top speed of $3.4 million dollars, there’s little doubt that Lykan HyperSport is worth every penny. The engine emits 770 horsepower and can go from 0 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds; it also has an ungodly 7-speed twin-clutch transmission, as well as magnetic brakes and a titanium exhaust. The Lykan HyperSport is known for its intense looks—the headlights are designed like eyes (the headlights look like eyes!); it’s also known for being built by W Motors, which was founded by Ralph Rizk—an entrepreneur who made his fortune selling luxury real estate in Dubai.

– Hennessey Venom GT

With a top speed of 270 miles per hour, there’s not much that can catch up to it. 0-60 mph is just 2.7 seconds and its 1200 horsepower engine (1,244 PS) offers more power than most commercial jets. The Hennessey Venom GT is considered to be one of fastest road cars ever built and it costs $1 million, with delivery expected by 2016. It’s one of four cars on our list with a top speed over 300 mph – and that’s no coincidence.
